TurmeriX™ | The Benefits of Kelp

Welcome back to our series of articles as we deep dive into the individual ingredients that make up the TurmeriX™ blend. Each ingredient was chosen to be part of the blend for its unique individual properties and for its complementary synergy when mixed with other powerful natural ingredients. One ingredient on its own cannot do it all, but when taken together that is where the effectiveness happens!

This week our in-depth look is at Kelp!

Kelp is not a plant but a heterokont. A heterokont is any organism that has two flagella of unequal length. Kelp is part of the Laminariales order and is commonly known as large brown algae. Kelp grows in shallow oceans usually referred to as “underwater forests”.

Kelp is rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements and enzymes, making it a suitable addition to our diet. Vitamin K1, folate, magnesium and iron are just a few of the valuable nutrients in kelp. research has shown kelp may help to regulate the thyroid gland.  It provides healthy skin and hair while helping to promote growth development and burn excess fat. Kelp is one of the best natural sources of iodine. Iodine is essential component for healthy thyroid hormone production.

Kelp as an Antioxidant

Antioxidants such as flavonoids and carotenoids are high in kelp. These antioxidants may assist in fighting against disease- causing free radicals by boosting your immune system. Carotenoids may have anti-inflammatory properties, by reducing inflammation you protect against many ailments. Kelp also contains fucoidan (complex long-chain carbohydrate). Fucoidan has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Kelp to Boost Metabolism

Kelp contains a natural fiber called alginate. Research may indicate alginate to assist the gut from absorbing fat and breaking it down. It is common practice for food manufacturers to use alginates in their food product as a thickener. Alginate may help impede lipase (an enzyme that digests fat). Studies have shown ingesting kelp may lower blood lipids and increase antioxidant enzyme activities.

Kelp for Bone Health

Kelp is a superb source of plant-based calcium. 1 cup of kelp contains 60mg of calcium; compared to 1 cup of kale containing 55mg of calcium. Time and time again studies have shown the benefits of calcium to bone health and muscle function. Kelp's other “super star” minerals (manganese, zinc and copper) may promote healing if there is bone damage. Osteoporosis suffers may benefit from diets rich in these minerals.

Kelp for pH Balance & Natural Detoxification

Kelp is alkaline and is a natural detoxifier. Average North American diets (depending on how you eat!) have too much refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, and processed foods. Eating an unhealthy diet may contribute to high acid in the gut. When there is too much acid in the gut you have an unbalanced pH level. Unbalanced pH levels can leave you feeling exhausted and lethargic. Adding kelp to your diet may help bring your pH level back to a neutral level. Kelp has an amazing ability to assist with flushing toxins from the body.

Kelp is a natural inclusion into the TurmeriX™ blend with all its amazing healthy benefits. As you have read, kelp is a nutritious, being rich in trace elements and various minerals therefore contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
